Standard Operating Procedures
This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is written for SBS Biological and Chemical Services Biology Laboratory and it outlines the procedures that are to be followed by laboratory employees when handling, storing and disposing of hazardous chemicals.
I wrote this SOP using a template that was provided by my Writing Technical Documentation and Procedures class professor. The original template contained the common components of Standard Operating Procedures, and I was allowed to tailor it to meet the requirements of my audience and its industry. Before writing the SOP, I performed research on laboratory safety regulations and read Safety Manuals and Material and Safety Data Sheets to get an idea of what I needed to include in my SOP. The SOP went through four reviews and each release was approved by the professor electronically.
This assignment tested my ability to follow the document management procedures that I had learned at the beginning of the class. It also gave me the opportunity to learn more about what is required of regulated industries.
